Meet the Innovation Health Leadership Team

Paul McBride

Interim CEO, Innovation Health
CEO, Accountable Care Solutions from Aetna

Paul McBride, interim CEO of Innovation Health joined Innovation Health in August 2017. Paul will guide the continued growth and transformation of Innovation Health with a focus on new and expanded lines of business.  

Prior to joining Innovation Health, Paul led Aetna's move to value-based collaborations with physicians and hospitals, as well as national provider contracting across the country. Aetna is the industry leader in the accountable care movement and has over 1,700 collaborations, including over 220 accountable care organizations and five equity joint ventures, with leading provider systems at the forefront of transformation.

Paul has led collaborations between health plans and their provider communities to advance value-based delivery of care for over 20 years. He previously held senior roles in financing and enabling the transformation of care delivery and population health with each of the four largest health plans in the U.S., as well as with various international operations, joint ventures, and start-ups in health care delivery and insurance.

Previously, Paul served as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, and he earned a Master of Science in Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Nannette G. Henderson

Chief Financial Officer

Nannette Henderson, Chief Financial Officer, accepted her leadership position with Innovation Heath in May 2013 and is responsible for financial activities in support of the new partnership between Aetna and Inova.

Prior to joining Innovation Health, she was Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of NYLCare Health Plans of the Mid-Atlantic for 13 years. In that position, she was responsible for all finance, underwriting, human resources and information technology functions. Her time there included an election by her peers as the President of the Maryland Association of Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs), where she represented the Maryland HMOs on a variety of issues throughout the state. After leaving NYLCare, Nannette accepted the founding Chief Financial Officer position with Digital Insurance, where she served in that position until 2001 when she left the workforce to stay at home and raise her four daughters.

While a stay at home mother, Nannette provided accounting and consulting services to a wide variety of small businesses and non-profits, including tax and regulatory filings related to starting nonprofit tax exempt organizations in Virginia.  She is also heavily involved as a Board member in the parent teacher organizations of her children's schools and is an active volunteer in their various sports and extracurricular activities. Nannette has received numerous awards for her volunteer work in recognition for her commitment to the well-being of children and educational advocacy.

Amy K. Turner

Executive Director and Chief Operations Officer

Amy Turner, Executive Director and Chief Operations Officer, joined Innovation Health in July 2014.  In this role, Amy is responsible for implementing new strategic initiatives, products, and networks. In addition, Amy oversees sales and account management activities along with the ongoing operations of the company. Amy will ensure Innovation Health continues to transform the health care landscape for Northern Virginia individuals and businesses.

Amy began her career at Aetna, and has over 14 years of experience in health plan administration. Most recently Amy was Director of Client Services for Aetna’s Capitol Market, where she led a team of highly seasoned and established account managers who served large group customers. Amy also served as Aetna’s Network Market Head for Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Along with an extensive health plan experience, she also worked at Inova Health System as Senior Director of Network Development.

Amy earned a Masters of Business Administration from Virginia Tech and a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in Professional Studies from The University of Hawaii.

Sunil Budhrani, MD, MPH, MBA

Chief Medical Officer and Chief Medical Informatics Officer

Dr. Sunil Budhrani, a Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Physician, joined Innovation Health in May 2016 as Chief Medical Officer and Chief Medical Informatics Officer. In this role, he’ll help ensure Northern Virginia residents have access to quality, cost-effective health coverage.

Most recently Sunil co-founded CareClix Telemedicine, a pioneer in remote patient monitoring and telemedicine technologies. At the same time, he served as Co-Chair of the American Telemedicine Association's Guidelines Committee for Practice of Primary Care and Urgent Care Telemedicine. And throughout his career, he’s authored many papers on telemedicine and speaks nationally about reducing hospital readmissions and employing telemedicine in medical practices.

Previously, as Chief Medical Officer for Evergreen Health Care, he led the clinical course for medical technology, network development, member engagement and population health. After completing his residency training in Emergency Medicine at the Tufts University School of Medicine, he served as Chairman and directed Emergency Departments and Urgent Care Centers on the east coast for more than a decade.

Sunil earned his Medical and a Master’s degree in Public Health from George Washington University. He also earned Bachelor of Arts degrees with honors in Neuroscience and English from the University of Pennsylvania.

Roger Mermelstein

Chief Sales Officer

Roger Mermelstein joined Innovation Health in early 2017. As the Chief Sales Officer, he is responsible for successfully building and leading the Sales and Account Management team. He and his team will focus on the strategic growth, retention and distribution of the business.

Prior to joining Innovation Health, Roger served as national Vice President for Hanger, a billion dollar provider of orthotic and prosthetic services in the US, with over 2,600 payer contracts nationally. He led the sales and service organization that strategically worked with all carrier partners, representing over 47 percent of company revenue and growing incremental revenue by over $125 million.

Before Hanger, Roger served as Head of Sales and Marketing for Aetna Federal Plans. He led the national sales team representing 520,000 members and $1.5 billion in revenue over a five year period.

Roger is a native Washingtonian and has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Miami.
